The Most (un) used Passport

The most (un) used passport.

Somewhere I read an article about people travelling very frequently. This has now made our Foreign Ministry to issue new passports that will have a validity of ten years.  And then the article immediately reminded me of my passport which is not even used once.

But I am not trying to say I have never gone out for training and seminars. I have been out thrice in my six years service. On my first two occasion I was using my official passport. Since my third travel abroad was to India, I was travelling on my Citizen Identity Card. Nevertheless, I was also carrying my passport too.  

My initial intention for processing an ordinary passport (one with blue cover) was in line with my preparation for my further studies. I was issued a passport in March 2009. With that, I frist tried my luck, competing in RGoB scholarship. I failed. Then I tried my luck competing for a WCO and Japan Government scholarship. There too, I failed. In between, I also applied for Nuffic scholarship in Nederlands. I failed there too. Ohh, No No . I withdrew my application because the course was not that relevent for me.

Finally, when RCSC announced a GoI scholarship, I was the first person to submint the applications. My Chief Human Resource officer commended me for being prompt. He also said the courses are very good and would be of immense help for my career ahead.  I sat for the interview and got selected.

Very soon I will be leaving for my studies in India. I know its wonderful place on Earth.  At the same time I am also very eager to use my passport too. But what if I can travel on my citizen Identity card for my studies like I did for my training, a year a ago?

My passport has a validity till March 2014, But by the time I complete my course, it would be already mid 2013. My travel chances are slim once I come back from my studies. The mandatory requirementof  of valid passport (with minimum 6 months) makes my  passpot all the more useless.

So, What Should I do with my brand  new but not used, (not even once)  passport?  I think its a double loss for me as well as for the Government.
