From Customs Office Once Again

Few days a go, we had an in-house training on x-ray image reading and analysis. The training was initiated by those officials who had the opportunity of undergoing the said training in Bangkok. I was told that the training was funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in collaboration with Regional Office for Capacity Building for customs (ROCB) and the Thai Customs.  I am sure WCO must have also played its role. I was also told about the immense support rendered by the head office of  DRC in this regard. Someday I would love to write a detail report on it. But for now please bear with my brief unofficial write up.

Regional Director, Regional Revenue and Customs Office, Paro, chaired the training. The sole objective of the training according to him is to promote knowledge sharing among officials and to improve the service delivery by Airport Customs.

Interestingly, most of the presentations were made by our junior level officials. I am impressed with their performance and I have not many words to describe their confidence. It was fun and thoroughly enriching too. Their presentations were concise and to the point. I am positive that they have a room for further advancement. If they are doing this good with their level of exposure and qualification, their potential certainly  needs attention as well. May be its time we also explore the untested potentials of our inspectors as well. ADB, ROCB and Tahi Customs have done a tremendous job. I would like to convey our sincere thanks to all of them.

As a Customs official myself, I would be certainly looking forward to more such support from ADB, ROCB and Thai Customs in future. Paro Airport Customs now have few qualified people who can not only operate x-ray machines, but also read and analyse the images. I am hopeful that our trained officials would do their best to facilitate the flow of both passengers and air shipments in Paro Airport.
