My Secret of Scoring 80+

Few days ago, I got my results for 4th semester. With that result, I can finally say that I am through with my masters course. For good. I felt elated and excited. I felt more happy at the fact that I was able to perform well beyond my expectations.  Firstly, I topped Arts category of Gujarat University for 4th
semester with 86.16%. Secondly, I topped in my stream (Masters in Economics) with overall aggregate of 81.16%. I am sorry if this figures are appearing on my blog again and again. Please friends, I am not showing off. I am simply  celebrating my hard work, -those sleepless nights and those painful thousand reading hours and thousand writing hours. bear with me.

Here is a brief story as to how how everything unfolded. Initially as announced by RCSC, I applied for Masters in Public Finance. I was interviewed and accordingly got selected. But later, my letter of award said otherwise. I had to take up Masters in Economics with commerce background. Actually I am from a Commerce background. I haveB. Com (Hons) from Sherubtse college.

Back in my college, I was cautioned on my first day by the head of department. He even recommended me to change my course. He was right because I knew Economics is not anybody's cup of tea. I felt dreadful. Before I even started my first class, the fear of not making through haunted me to the depth of my heart. I felt ten thousand times terrified. I even fell sick for about a week!

The only self consolation I had was that, those theories and models in Economics are also written by human beings. I am not a brilliant and browny man, but with determination and focus, I thought nothing was impossible. If Penguins and Kiwis are known to fly, I should be certainly ok with Economics! Those were self inspirational thoughts that ran my blood then.

Now that everything is over, I would like to share my secrets. I call it a secret of scoring 80+. In a meantime I have sent a message to one of my friend in Gujarat to kindly collect my mark sheets, certificates and the gold medal. Anyways here are my secrets:
  1. Attend classes everyday and be attentive in the class.
  2. Take notes in the class ( I call it class notes)
  3. Prepare fair notes. Its important that we write our own notes rather than simply copying it from the text books. Its about getting conceptual clarity.
  4. Do not keep anything for the last minute.
  5. I have spent 12-13 hours daily with my books.
  6. Refer as many books as possible while preparing fair notes.  This is because reading different books gives us different insights.
  7. For Mathematics, there is no short cut. Its practice and more practice that makes us somewhat perfect.
  8. Make your study hours lively. Use highlighters. Drink lots of water or coffee.
  9. Use internet. Use Google 'Rimpoche' to get more information.
  10. Read as many books as possible besides prescribed academic text books.
  11. Side by side, make our own assessments and analysis ( from what we have studied from various books)
  12. Refresh oneself on weekends. Go out for a movie. Visit KFC and malls. Or Facebook or Write a blog.
